Extraordinary scenes unfolding in Brazil as people supporting President Bolsonaro occupy government buildings. The protesters have breached the Congress, Supreme Court and Presidential Palace. The scenes come after months of protests questioning the legitimacy of the election in October 22.

There are also reports of several clashes between security forces and members of the public.

Newly sworn in President Lula has called the protesters “fascists” and “fanatics” who will be punished “with the full force of law.”

Democrats and political commentators in the media in the United States are calling the incident J8, in reference to J6 protests about the legitimacy of the 2020 US election at the Capitol in Washington DC.
