Frankie was out of town on a FFA trip and Syd decided she was going to join me on a hunt. There were some really good signs on the food plot and the weather was perfect with a favorable wind, it should be a good afternoon. What I didn't expect was for her to get Buck Fever! We saw a pretty nice sized buck early on and she did not want me to pass on it, but it wasn't the deer I was looking for. This hunt was entirely about food in the freezer and first year deer taste the best. I was after a very young buck or a doe, not a 2 or 3 year old 8 point. I like to let those mature bucks that don't taste as good keep growing and doing there job to grow the heard.... Until they are wall hanger worthy :) I am not a trophy hunter, I am a harvester of meat but if a really old buck who is past his prime gave me the opportunity, I would hang it on the wall.
Syds reaction was great when we finally got the shot we wanted on a good eating first year buck. For her first time hunting with me, she did great!
