Former Westerly School Committee member Gina Fuller takes the podium during public comment period to address the highlights and shortfalls afflicting Westerly schools.

She points out that after school programs are needed to keep students engaged in positive after school activities while parents are working to support their families who struggle with increased cost of living expenses.

Transportation issues took the forefront of a presentation during the meeting but Gina questions why schedules cannot be arranged to suit the needs of students, parents and the challenges of getting them home safely.
Gina gives praise to teachers who put the needs of students above all like 2nd grade teacher Alyssa Richmond who gave all. Yet, there are some teachers expressing resistance to making the trek to the classroom citing it’s going to be a ‘windy day’.

In closing, she opines “When are we going to put kids and families first and really look at the issues?” and adding “we have to put the kids first and not the adults”.
