What Happen To The $1.2 Billion To House The Homeless In LA?
In 2016 LA voters voted for a $1.2 billion dollar project to build housing for the chronically homeless. What happen to the project and why did it fail?
The homelessness crisis in Los Angeles, and throughout California, is a serious issue that affects thousands of people. In Los Angeles County, there are over 66,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night, according to the 2021 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count. This crisis is complex and multifaceted, with a range of factors contributing to it, including a lack of affordable housing, rising housing costs, mental illness, substance abuse, and poverty.
There are several efforts underway to address homelessness in Los Angeles. These include providing temporary shelter and housing, as well as services such as mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, and job training. In addition, there are efforts to build more permanent housing for people experiencing homelessness, including through initiatives like the "Housing First" model, which aims to provide people with stable housing as a first step in addressing their other needs.
While the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles is a significant challenge, there are also many organizations and individuals working to find solutions and help those in need. If you are interested in supporting these efforts, there are many ways you can get involved, such as volunteering your time, donating money or goods, or advocating for policy changes that address the root causes of homelessness.
