William Aldred's case sparked a legal battle that changed the course of English law. Aldred's case began when his neighbor, Thomas Benton, erected a pig pen too close to his house, causing a stench that made Aldred's house unbearable to live in. The Court of Common Pleas sided with Aldred and ruled that Benton was in violation of Aldred's rights and personal dignity, setting in motion more than four centuries of agricultural nuisance suits. Join us as we look back at the landmark case of Aldred's case and the lasting impact it has had on English law
