Orthodox Christians have packed churches for Christmas Eve services, a holiday darkened for many by the conflict raging between neighbors Russia and Ukraine.
In Kyiv, hundreds of people - including men in military uniform - have attended a historic service at the famed Pechersk Lavra monastery, which was under Moscow's jurisdiction until the beginning of the war. At the Eastern frontline, Russian troops have also been attending services after President Vladimir Putin called for a holiday truce.
