Some context on the history
Most of the world operates off of the Gregorian Calendar, which holds christmas on December 25th
Goes back to Pope Gregory in 1582, standardizing the Christian Calendar
Russian Orthodox Christians follow the Julian Calendar, which observes Christmas on the 7th
Prior to Pope Gregory, Orthodox Christians had split around 1054, and chose to remain on the Julian Calendar
Ukrainian Orthodox Christians USED TO, but this year it was announced that they would begin to celebrate on December 25th
(or at least have the option to)
Under normal circumstances, a ceasefire is negotiated ahead of time and requires both parties to agree
