Book Review: If This Book Exists, You’re in the Wrong Universe by Jason Pargin

First of all, What?
Second of all, Da Fuq?

That's the normal reaction to reading a John Dies at the End book. Nothing to be concerned about. Just lean into it and let it work through your system. It might leave a residue in your brain--but the upside is that you'll be able to see things others can't. But the downside to that is you won't want to see them or even know they exist, especially if they're driving a spike into your brain and feeding off of you.

I've been reading the John Dies at the End series since John Dies at the End which was the beginning. This series is the most fun I'm allowed to have reading. Apparently, since I've not read anything funner. Jason Pargin (David Wong) books fit a space in my brain I didn't know was a space. Horrific, humorous, and a lot of cosmic philosophy.

You'll note I didn't write a word about the plot and we're already deep and wandering in my review. The reason is twothus: I don't like writing the stuff you can read in the goddamned description next to the jPEG of the book's cover and there's no accurate way to sum up a JDATE book that also makes sense to the uninitiated.

Let me try anyway:
John, Dave, and Amy see some freaky shit and climb into their Anal Massage Mystery Machine to protect the people who can't see the freaky shit from the freaky shit. They are then batted around by the freaky shit and words like da filthy. fall out of their mouths and then there's a resolution but is there?

Hanging out with dees peeps was fantastic and it's been too long. One thing about this series is that it really does not matter what happens in the story or the plot or any of that because it's just such a trip. Though the story and plot and all of that is great this time out as well. Though though, my favorite in the series was This Book is Full of Spiders for reasons I can't recall, but trust me.

I'd like to thank Jason Pargin for writing under his real name so that all his old books will be on shelves in two different Alpha by Author shelves (under Wong and Pargin) at the book store making it appear like two universes are colliding. That's a nice touch.

Anyway the answer to the first two questions in this review is: da filthy.
