Kevin McCarthy’s Quest For the Gavel

This will be the THIRD day in a row of the U.S. House of Representatives holding votes to try to pick a Speaker of the House. Yesterday we reported that Rep. Kevin McCarthy, thought to be the frontrunner for the position, lost in three consecutive votes on Tuesday. Then yesterday, three more votes were held and McCarthy lost all three again. And today he has failed to secure the speakership on a seventh vote.

A group of some 20 Republican holdouts are refusing to throw their votes his way, for varied reasons. As a result there are some pushing for the House to adjourn until next Tuesday to continue negotiations, aka give Kevin McCarthy time to find whatever additional support he can scrape together.

As reported:

"Kevin McCarthy, Republican leader, failed to gain the speaker’s post in three more successive votes. The empty speaker’s position means that the House is at a standstill: Without sworn members, it is unable to perform oversight, pass bills or set up constituent services."

The problem, as we’ve said before, is no one is governing while these ridiculous votes continue. This is the third day of these negotiations and votes, and it feels like they’re just running around in circles. And literally nothing is getting done in the House. And it’s not helping the optics that the radical Left is treating the proceedings like a circus, reportedly complete with popcorn.

Let’s be blunt, Congress needs to pull itself together right now. At the end of the day, it seems like it’s still going to be Rep. McCarthy, so all of these votes will prove to have been little more than playing politics and wasting time and the taxpayers’ money.

Today’s full Sekulow broadcast includes further coverage and discussion about the continuing voting process going on at the House of Representatives and what it means going forward. As well as more information on how you can help us save a young Christian’s life.
