Surya Namaskara: Salutation to the Sun

Surya Namaskara is one of the most powerful asana (pose) sequences taught in the Yoga system of Sanatana Dharma. It is a series of twelve asanas practiced in a flowing meditative sequence (vinyasa) that is designed to relax, energize and strengthen all the major muscle groups as a preparation for meditation and further Yoga practice.

It is also designed to be a meditative prayer in active motion to Surya, the god of the Sun. Thus, Surya Namaskara is translated as "Salutation to the Sun".

Very sadly, in very modern times, many inauthentic and profit-oriented Yoga teachers have altered the original and authentic sequence, as well as the spiritual purpose, of the original Surya Namaskara sequence in an attempt to build an audience. As a result, many supposed "Surya Namaskara" series that are taught today are not the authentic system at all, and have a history only a few decades old at most.

What this video presents is the actual authentic, unaltered and genuine Surya Namaskara series as taught directly to his disciples by one of the greatest Vedic masters of our era, Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya.

The teacher instructing us in this video is Vaidya Savitri Devi, who Sri Acharyaji has personally taught both Yoga and Vedic spirituality to for over eight years. In addition to being a Yoga teacher, Savitri is also a professionally trained Ayurvedic herbalist. Her website is:
