House of Representatives adjourns as Rep. Kevin McCarthy loses sixth vote

The US House of Representatives voted to adjourn for a second night without a speaker on Wednesday, January 4, after GOP leader Kevin McCarthy failed to secure enough support to be elected. McCarthy has lost a total of six votes in two days. Footage here shows the House voting 216-214 to adjourn for the night after scenes not witnessed since 1923, when it took nine votes to elect a speaker.
