Bob Chiaradio presents facts from Rhode Island Department of Education showing Westerly, RI’s 16th place in aggregate scores for ELA (English), Math and Science.

He shows that Westerly’s per pupil expenditure cost of $26,000 secures the #1 spot in the state but yet performance scores places the town in the middle of the pack. In comparison, Barrington ranks 28th in per pupil expenditure but ranks much higher in aggregate scores.

The abysmal returns in school performance brings the greater question to the forefront which is test scores are not improving while per pupil costs rise. Mr. Chiaradio questions the performance and strategic focus of the school department since Superintendent Garceau’s took his leadership role.

Under his tenure, school rankings have continued to dip which leads to the bigger question of where school funds are being allocated.

In recent years, it’s been shown the school department has strayed and wandered from educational basics and focused their time on social justice topics including an equity audit.

Westerly is in need of a course correction and the current school committee needs to change their destination. Recalculating route.
