Broadtree

Having each pursued music in their own way for years leading up to their inception (Armand through various bands during his days at Ryerson University, Nicole studying musical theatre at Randolph College), the pair that would eventually form Broadtree connected immediately after being cast in an independent, touring theatre production.

Nicole and Armand later starred in a Toronto-based revival of The Last Five Years, a two-person, sung through musical where they were praised for their chemistry on stage.

After sharing the stage in several more theatre productions, the COVID-19 pandemic stripped them of all stage shows, leaving their morale and mental health at a new low.

It would be in November, 2020 that Nicole and Armand decided to collaborate on a single, “Red”, without much intention other than to release it shortly after recording. However, that single soon turned into a virtual release show, an EP, and a songwriting partnership that would see them write their debut album in the span of 6 weeks. This album, Feeling Bad. Feeling Better., would be their first release under their new name: Broadtree. Their chemistry and dynamic together continues to be praised, both in recordings and in live/live-streamed performances.

While they wait for Canada to slowly open up for live performances, they continue to run two series highlighting their peers around the world in Musical Postcards: World Tour and Song Swap. They are also active in several social causes, the most recent being supporting the Muslim community after the terrorist attack in London, Ontario and supporting Canada’s indigenous and First Nations’ populations by acting as a voice in a world that often ignores these injustices.
For now, they continue to openly speak about mental illness - a theme prevalent throughout their debut - inviting anyone who needs an ear to reach out. In addition, their most recent single release Be As has been met with a strong reception, with the duo receiving personal messages from many in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond praising the message.

Nicole and Armand continue to write feverishly, stacking songs to be ready for their next release.
