Biker Collides With Car And Breaks His Collarbone!

If you witness a motorcycle rider crashing and breaking their collarbone, or if you are with someone who has experienced this type of injury, there are several things you can do to help:

-- Call for medical assistance. If the person is in a lot of pain, is having trouble breathing, or is otherwise in a serious condition, call 911 or your local emergency number for assistance.

-- Stay with the person and try to keep them calm. Reassure them that help is on the way and that they will receive the medical care they need.

-- Help the person to a safe location, if possible. If the person is in a location where they are at risk of being hit by oncoming traffic or experiencing further injury, try to move them to a safer location. Be sure to take care not to cause further injury while moving the person.

-- Administer first aid, if needed. If the person is bleeding, apply pressure to the wound with a clean cloth. If the person is in shock, keep them warm and elevate their feet slightly. (check the front and back of the RESQ Card for more)

Follow the instructions of the medical professionals when they arrive. The healthcare professionals who treat the person will have the most up-to-date and accurate information on how to care for the injury. Follow their instructions and do not attempt to treat the injury yourself.
