Rice Stitch: 1 Minute Crochet #36

In these short videos, you will learn a new crochet stitch or technique in one minute or less.

The Rice Stitch uses Front Post Double Crochet and Back Post Double Crochet alternating to create a woven effect. Using a base of odd numbered double crochets, start each row with one HDC then alternate FPDC and BPDC ending the row with an FPDC in second to last stitch and then a HDC on the last stitch to frame it in. When you chain 1 and turn for the next row, the FPDC's are now pushed to the back and the BPDC's are in the front. So when you FPDC, you are reaching the hook from the front to the back, pulling around FPDC from the previous row to pull it forward. And the opposite with the BPDC's. It creates a cool woven look.
