In the 1940s, two brothers named Dick and Mac McDonald opened a small burger stand in California.

In the 1950s, they developed a system for mass-producing burgers, fries, and shakes, which became the blueprint for the modern fast food industry. In 1954, a man named Ray Kroc franchised their model and opened the first McDonald's restaurant in Illinois.

Over the following decades, McDonald's spread to every corner of the globe and became a household name and symbol of American culture.

Today, there are over 38,000 McDonald's restaurants in more than 100 countries. Despite challenges and controversies, McDonald's remains a successful and influential brand.
