How To Prepare The Pine Mountain Ski Jump For The Continental Cup (Instructional) | Jason Asselin

Every year the Kiwanis Ski Club host an international ski jumping tournament called the Continental Cup at the Pine Mountain Ski Jump. In 2022 we held our first competition on this newly built ski jump in Iron Mountain, Michigan. This is the process it takes to prepare the ski jump for this weekend event. Our hope is to share this process with volunteers planning to help in any future year, to give them an idea of what to expect or plan for..
In years past it might take us 3 weeks to totally prepare the ski jump using 3,000 gallons of water and tons of snow made on site. This new process can be done in a matter of days, rather than weeks. Once we have the tracks filled with slush, they'll begin to freeze in place. Our ski jump has the ability to keep it frozen using new technology, sort of like your refrigerator.
