Disney's 100th anniversary is this year, and to celebrate, I'm going to tell the story of this legendary animation company over a yearlong period.

We start at the beginning, with Walt Disney, Walter Elias Disney, who was born on December 5, 1901. The beginnings of Disney can be traced back to Walt's love for newspaper comic strips and art, as well as a chance meeting with a fellow art studio colleague named Ub Iwerks, who suggested they could go into business together. If Walt and Roy had not met Ub Iwerks, Disney wouldn't have been possible.

A few more details about the very beginning of Disney are discussed in this video.

Next week, Walt Disney creates his first cartoon character, then loses him.
