A traffic stop for a minor traffic violation resulted in a drug and gun bust after officers smelled marijuana coming from the car.

The routine control stop was carried out at the end of last month by the City of Atlanta Police Department officers on a Dodge Challenger for minor traffic violations.

During the stop, officers smelled the odour of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver, later identified as Jamal Freeman, 39, admitted to having a small amount in the vehicle and gave that to officers.

Officers attempted to have Freeman step out of the vehicle so they could ensure no more marijuana was inside, but he was reluctant and ultimately tried to reenter the vehicle.

A struggle ensued, and Freeman was taken into custody a short time later. Officers then found he was carrying two handguns.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers located 2.4 pounds of methamphetamine, over a pound of marijuana, and 23 oxycodone pills.

The passenger, later identified as Chanele Lamb, 33, was also found to be carrying 89 MDMA pills.

Freeman was later found to be a convicted felon with a previous armed robbery conviction. He and Lamb were both charged and taken to jail.

Freeman was charged with multiple narcotics violations, multiple weapons charges, and obstruction.

Lamb was charged with multiple narcotics violations and obstruction.
