Hello friends and welcome to the world of power animals. Each animal has a different message or meaning for us. Today we’ll look at the salamander.

There are over 500 species of salamanders in the world. They’re short-bodied, four-legged, smooth skinned amphibians that are abouty 6 inches long. Some are brightly colored but many look camouflaged. Salamanders are carnivores that eat small worms and insects. Their habitats are freshwater ponds, streams, and moist forests where they can easily hide. Salamanders breed all year and lay hundreds of eggs at a time. They develop in water as larvae before they live on the land.

Although they look like lizards, salamanders don’t have scales. They travel at night and are well adapted to an aquatic environment. Salamanders are adept at moving on land yet really enjoy the rain. Their skin is sensitive to toxins and if it dries out, they will die. The secretive salamander is rarely seen and always careful. Amazingly, they can heal themselves. If predator grabs hold of it, they can shed their tail or limbs and regrow another one. Salamanders can secrete a highly poisonous substance to protect themselves. They’re true survivors having been on the planet for over 150 million years.

Salamanders are relaxed, have a keen awareness, and can make changes when necessary. They’re nature’s trusted guardian because they have a very close connection to Mother Earth. The shy salamander is a symbol of adaptability, resilience, and rejuvenation. Call on their spirit when you need to rebalance or renew yourself.
