Dalton and I started recording Quake 4 tonight, and it did not go nearly as well as I was hoping. I was hoping to record the PC version of the game, but it loaded without textures or lighting effects. It looked like a big steaming pile of ass, so I pulled out my Xbox 360 and my copy of the game for that. I set that up and turned that on. The system updated because I have not used my 360 in a while. It could not log in because I have changed my XBL password since the last time I used it. I figured that would be no big deal. I would just play it without logging in. Well, it would not let me save my game without logging in. I logged in. It wasted something like 30 minutes of time, and I only recorded an hour and 10 minutes as a result.

After the recording, however, I did some research into this and how to get the PC version running on modern hardware. I found a tweaker for the game that let me set it at resolutions higher than 1080p, and it forced the game to load the high resolution textures. This worked, and the game looked as good as it is supposed to. The end result of this will be that the first 3 episodes of this Let's Play will be the Xbox 360 version and everything after that will be the PC version. Next time we record, there will be a noticeable jump in graphical quality as a result of this.

The song at the end is Into the Unknown by Helstar.
