My Suggestion: Spend a little extra and request to stay overnight at their reserve. You get to sleep in a hammock and see how they interact as a family. Usually, they light a fire and get together as a community after dark. They also treat you as family, if you show interest. Even if you don't speak Portuguese, attempt to communicate with them, and you will experience how the language of love speaks clearer than words. I also advise buying a book they have written about their own story that they sell at the reserve. It is written in Portuguese, and is a good excuse to learn a little bit of a new language (even if you only use Google translate). My Portuguese is average, and this remains one of the most pure stories I have ever had the fortune to be told. The book tells the story of chief Nitinawa and how she began dreaming the empowerment of her people into reality.
