Silenced in the name of evil: Freedom of thought destroyed in the UK. #isabelvaughanspruce

On December 6 2022, Isabel Vaughan-Spruce #Isabelvaughnspruce was arrested for breaching the terms of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) by standing alone, silently praying, near an abortion centre. It's important to remember that the law that permitted the creation of a PSPO, the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act of 2014, was specifically directed at preventing public delinquency, drunkenness and hooliganism. It was NOT intended to be used in the manner that it has been here, otherwise, frankly, it would never have been enacted.

The proper use of a PSPO was outlined in the updated 'Guidance for Councils' of 2017 which is available on-line. Prayer of any kind is not mentioned in this document, anywhere.

Amnesty International says, on its website that: any restrictions on freedom of expression must be provided by law, protect certain public interests or the rights of others and, be clearly necessary for that purpose.'

'In the UK, human rights are protected by the Human Rights Act 1998. Article 9 protects your right to hold both religious and non-religious beliefs. This is an absolute right which means it can’t be interfered with by the state.' (Citizen's Advice UK) However, 'Article 9 also protects your right to manifest your beliefs - for example, your right to wear religious clothing, the right to talk about your beliefs or take part in religious worship. The right to manifest your beliefs is qualified. This means it can be interfered with in certain situations - for example, to protect the rights of others.' Silent prayer is not here described as a 'manifestation'.

In fact, Vaughan-Spruce wasn't 'manifesting' anything. She was just silently standing on the pavement.

In addition to the above, Vaughan-Spruce has now been charged with 'intimidation'. How can one woman silently standing in the street be intimidation? Clearly, this is a serious case of Government over-reach and it needs to be resisted.
