Caught Between Two Kingdoms; 1Sam. 20:1-23

Delivered during the 2022 New Year's Eve Service; 2Sam. 1-23. When King Saul's jealousy of David led him to maniacally seek his death, his son Jonathan was faced with a dilemma. For Jonathan knew in his heart that God had anointed David to be the new king of Israel, but as a Hebrew, he still felt loyalty and love for his father. But his great fear was that as the son of Saul and heir to the throne, his own life and the safety of his family was in peril. In a very real sense, we find ourselves in the same dilemma. If we are born-again believers in Christ, we may live in this fallen world, but our citizenship, and our loyalties are to the Kingdom of Heaven and its King. We are indeed caught between two Kingdoms. But in this New Year's Eve meditation we will analyze how Jonathan chose to follow and support God's anointed in David, and through his example make the same decision in the coming year-- to seek first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness above all else.
