Large cache of guns recovered after reports of multiple people in the street firing weapons

On December 31, 2022, at around 10:40 PM, officers received a call regarding multiple people in the street firing weapons near Rebel Forrest Drive and Redford Drive in Southeast Atlanta.

The first officer on scene heard gunfire and observed 15 to 20 armed individuals at the locations. Upon seeing police, the armed suspects fled on foot.

Officers canvassed the area, but did not locate any of the suspects.

Officers did locate hundreds of spent shell casings on the ground where the armed individuals had been.

Officers observed narcotics and weapons inside multiple vehicles at the scene, and a handgun with a fully automatic switch was located under one of the vehicles. The vehicles were towed from the scene and search warrants were obtained.

A search of these vehicles revealed 15 additional firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and over 1.5 pounds of marijuana.

One of the firearms had been converted to fully automatic, and three of the firearms were reported as stolen.

Investigators are following up one of the seized weapons, and charges are likely as the investigation progresses.
