House Republicans released a rules package as the upcoming Congress approaches. Within the package, it introduces rules such as a 72-hour window to review bills before they hit the floor and the ability to zero out a government official’s salary. It also prohibits staff unionization and remote hearings.
The rules will still need to be adopted by the House. In the meantime, James P. McGovern (D-MA), the current Democratic Chairman of the House Rules Committee, dubs the package a “major step backward”.
