Surrender All in Life and Spirit - Growing Closer to God

This week James turns our attention to our relationship with God. James tells us to resist the devil and he will flee. When we submit ourselves to God, we are drawing closer to God. God wants to draw closer to us. It is through our submitting of our lives and repenting of our sins that we draw closer. James states, it is better to have “godly sorrow”, repent, mourn and humble ourselves today rather than to wait until God’s humbling of the proud occurs and then regret or mourn for the sin in your life. Finally, we ought to humble ourselves before the Lord to be exalted to the kingdom of heaven. God will give more grace to the humble. Humbling yourself is an important step to submitting yourself to God.
