NYC Machete Attacker, 19-Year Old Trevor Bickford, Homegrown Islamic Extremist?

Trevor Bickford decided to ring in the new year by attacking three NYPD officers at Times Square with a machete. The 19-Year Old had a manifesto with him and confirmed his motives of spreading the word of Allah and through his actions, hoped to bring his family closer to Islam. Don't think that was the strongest sales pitch, but to each their own.

It's been a second since Islamic Extremism has popped up, normally machete attacks are the domain of the Europeans. But what drove the young Bickford to lash out irrationally? It's not the Qaran, but rather a broken home, perhaps.
