Adventure 11, Part 1: Comfort in a Snowstorm

Part 1 of 3. Although not expressly mentioned in this episode, it should be noted that because of extreme temperatures, fewer hours of daylight, the unexpected snow cover, I had to be flexible, adjust my expectations for each day's mileage, pay attention to my body and be content to work within my limits. Here I show off the unbelievable beauty of the deep backcountry in below-freezing, snowy conditions. I hope you enjoy, and I'll be publishing a couple more episodes from this same excursion.

I put my favorite kettle of all time to use, the iBasingo (Boundless Voyage) 1.4 L Titanium Kettle with Filter. I'm using my favorite winter shelter, the Luxe floorless Hexpeak 2P Tipi Tent. Of course, I'm packing my favorite water bottle & mug combo: The BCB British Canteen of Osprey NATO water bottle 58-Pattern fame, and breaking in a brand new BCB NATO Crusader Cup (which will get more video time in following episodes). I'm using a 15-year old Zero Degree goose down sleeping bag from Cabella's. My dog, a Ladner Blackmouth Cur, is using a Horizon Hound 1lb 1oz down blanket from Amazon. His backpack (saddlebags) is from Ruffwear and has never worked out too well for us.

My fixed-blade, single-tang knife is the Mountain Lion knife from Pathfinder Knife Shop. My stool, which I highly recommend, is the 17" Hillsound BTR Stool for Ultralight Backpacking from Amazon (the legs collapse for packing and the whole thing weighs less than one of my boots). My kuksa cup is from Etsy. Backpack is the Kelty Redwing 50.

I'm wearing Smartwool 250 long johns, Carhart polyester Softshell, a light, REI Goretex Hardshell windbreaker/raincoat. Boots are Keen Goretex Targhee.
