Ingrid & I close out the MOVIES portion of our Godzilla Retrospective (don't worry we've only got two move videos then the final retrospective) with the, so far, final released movie in the Monsterverse, the one they were all building towards! Godzilla vs Kong! (Don't worry this is just a brief discussion, nothing like our prior two videos)

Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home. Along for the ride is Jia, an orphaned girl who has a unique and powerful bond with the mighty beast. However, they soon find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla as he cuts a swath of destruction across the globe. The initial confrontation between the two titans -- instigated by unseen forces -- is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the planet.

Thing movie...is our second favorite of the Monsterverse but it's no where near as amazing as King of the Monsters were! There were a lot of flaws to be certain but it was still a damn good romp. We got a lot of great action! The special effects were incredible! We could actually get a feeling to what the monsters were thinking from their facial expressions! AND we got an INCREDIBLE MechaGodzilla to boot!

What bogs this movie down is the human stories...not that they were shit! In fact we enjoyed the KONG side of the human stories cause it expanded the lore and everything. But the GODZILLA side of the human story was what made us groan. Things just happened to go their way just to contrive them into a place to be helpful at the end. The comedy there was cringe and it felt a waste of Millie's character. Also some of the new characters felt wasted, ESPECIALLY Ren Serizawa! What an utter waste!

But, overall, this felt like the perfect accumulation of what the prior three movies were building towards! Godzilla vs Kong! And it gives us a definitive answer to it! But then gave us the other greatest Toho Kaiju in MechaGodzilla to give the two an opponent to team up and fight!

We both hope there's more for the monsterverse (and more with Godzilla especially) and say this was a great movie overall and high recommended.

Special Thanks to Kaiju Brony for letting me use his video for the intro. Check out his work https://www.youtube.com/user/godzillabots
