Call it Nurul Arifin, Deddy Mizwar, Wawan Wanisar, Roldiah Matulessy, and Piet Pagau. It is said that Naga Bonar (Deddy Mizwar) is a pickpocket in Medan who often goes in and out of prison and was once a prisoner of the Japanese.

Naga Bonar is friendly with a young man named Bujang (Afrizal Anoda). They were also often in and out of prison together. One day, after they returned from prison, Bang Pohan (Piet Pagau) informed them about Indonesia's independence which had been proclaimed in Jakarta. However, the people of North Sumatra cannot yet breathe the fresh air of independence.

The reason is, the Dutch re-entered the Medan area with the intention of being in power again. Naga Bonar also became a frontline soldier against the Dutch.

Through radio narrator, it was reported that Doctor Zulbi, who helped Naga Bonar when he was sick, was a Dutch spy. However, the news that was spread turned out to be false.

Doctor Zulbi was suspected of being a spy just because there was cheese in his residence. After having exchanged arms, Naga Bonar was ordered to withdraw because the Indonesian side was going to negotiate with the Dutch. Naga Bonar and his troops were moved to another base. During the transfer, Naga Bonar became interested in Kirana (Nurul Arifin), the daughter of Doctor Zulbi.

At that time, Kirana was still an Indonesian prisoner of war. Nevertheless, Naga Bonar did not forget his duty to prepare a strategy ahead of negotiations with the Netherlands.
