A Prophet Like Moses; Deut. 18:15

Delivered during the Christmas Eve worship service, 12/24/2022. In this Christmas Eve meditation we will focus on a single verse from the book of Deuteronomy-- when Moses promises that God will raise up a prophet just like him. But what does he mean by this? What exactly is a prophet who is just like Moses? We will look at all the prophets of the Old Testament and consider certain criteria such as the way they were born, the power of God they exhibited, and their activity as deliverers to see if there are any candidates. But as you might expect, this tiny child born in a manger that we celebrate on this night is the only possible candidate who can come close to being like Moses. After establishing that Jesus is indeed that Prophet, we will consider the rest of the verse that warns of serious consequences for those who do not listen and obey-- a prophet like Moses.
