Asmir Begovic a Rangers transfer 'target' as Allan McGregor succession planning intensifies
Begovic is out of contract at Everton and would be available as a solid, experienced free agent.
Asmir Begovic is reportedly a summer transfer target for Rangers.

Now journalist Alex Crook claims that Rangers want to sign Begovic in the summer. Michael Beale insists he doesn’t need to worry about the goalkeeping position at Ibrox, with Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin number one and number two ahead of third choice Robby McCrorie. But McGregor could retire at the end of the season after opting to pen a one-year extension in the summer and play on past the age of 41. McLaughlin is still under contract until 2024, but a new number one will be a priority should McGregor decide to call time on his career.
Begovic has emerged as a potential target. After making his name in the English Premier League with Portsmouth, he went on to play for Stoke City, Chelsea and AC Milan amongst others before joining Everton.

At 35, he’s unlikely to be a long term option. But given the success of Joe Hart’s free transfer switch to Celtic at a similar age and Craig Gordon going strong at nearly 40 until his recent injury, Rangers may feel they can get a couple of good seasons out of Begovic.
