The English written language can be considered an enigma. On the one hand, it gives us the gift of expression. Yet, it can be a tricky and treacherous trap if we are not aware of its potential traps and consequences.

In today's world, having the ability to write in English is becoming increasingly important in order to succeed in a variety of settings, from grades in school to gaining employment. But with so much emphasis on written English, it can become a dangerous source of stress and anxiety. Writing can become a trap, inducing feelings of inadequacy and frustration. This is caused by unrealistic expectations of perfection, language conventions that can sometimes feel overly limiting, and a fear of being judged based on writing alone.

Worse, if we are not careful, written English can become a trap for our souls. It can become a crutch which we increasingly lean on to communicate ourselves, leading to a disconnection from our true selves. We begin to build a false self, one that is dependent upon our own writing.

Therefore, it is important to remember that written English is merely a tool and should not be seen as a reflection of our self-worth. We can still write in English even though it can at times be a source of frustration. It is also important to explore other forms of creative self-expression, such as art, music, and journaling. The act of putting our feelings into a non-verbal form can be liberating, allowing us to express our true selves and embrace our creativity. Ultimately, it is important to remember that written English should be viewed as an aid rather than an agent of control or self-judgment.
