First ray activation at toe off for stability and alignment
The first ray is the bones that make up the line of the big toe. They form the longest highest and most flexible of the foot arches. If the muscles of this foot arch can't lift and lock the arch, there is a loss of dynamic strength and stability and the body responds to this by holding back on the power of the toe off. If however, we press the big toe and ball of the big toe into the ground and permit the arch and inner ankle. bone to lift, this switches on the muscles of the whole foot, and even the core and "lift" muscles of the leg and body. The result is a stronger, and more stable toe off. In addition, no bottoming out on the foot arches means less risk of plantar fasciitis and medial tibial stress syndrome. And no inward rotation and collapse of the knee means less risk of knee cartilage damage and the need for knee surgery.
