So strange…BA490 Holding Pattern over Spain before Diverting to Malaga

This was strange to watch BA490 on FlightRadar 24 today 28/12/2022 at about 4:37 PM. I was waiting for the flight to come down to Gibraltar when I noticed it turn and start descent. I thought that was odd since most of the time these flight will descend over Marbella and then further when they are out over the sea. I haven't watched one that maintained a holding pattern over Spain and had such a quick decent. I knew there must have been an issue.
The flight eventually diverted to Malaga. I'm sure some sort of emergency caused the plane to fly like this then divert to Malaga. Conditions were ideal for landing here at Gibraltar, so I know it wasn't from weather.
