Did Stanley Meyer die because he knew how to turn water into fuel?

Inventor Stanley Meyer claimed to be able to convert water into fuel by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen and using hydrogen for combustion. After numerous people became interested in his project, including the government, he agreed to meet with some investors at a restaurant. During the meeting he ran out of the restaurant and exclaimed to his brother "they poisoned me", and he collapsed and passed away seconds later.
