Today is the Feast of the Holy Martyrs ....

King Herod, who reveled in bloodshed, murdered his wife and two sons, fearing he would lose his kingdom. His deviant and prideful character/behavior annihilated male babies and toddlers in Bethlehem and the surrounding towns.

The Catholic Encyclopedia states: The Greek Liturgy asserts that Herod killed 14,000 boys, the Syrians speak of 64,000, many medieval authors of 144,000. We may never know the exact killing spree, but baby boys were murdered by Herod's army.
