Its importance to the company is that it is the first Kia to use its new, slanted rebranding logo, which is a call to action to other manufacturers. Build quality? Check. Travel comfortably north of 300 miles on a single charge? Check. Is the usual Kia worth the money? Check. In the UK, the EV6 starts at a very competitive £41,000. U.S. prices are still to be determined, but it's around $55,300, so get it.

Kia is of course owned by the Hyundai Motor Group, so it's no surprise to see this crossover on a version of the same E-GMP architecture on which the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is based. Given the capabilities of the IONIQ 5, that's not a bad thing. Crucially, though, the EV6 has better battery performance, which removes our main issue with the IONIQ 5, the top model's 280-mile maximum range.

The EV6 will initially be available in two versions: a 321-horsepower all-wheel drive and an affordable 226-horsepower rear-wheel-drive single-engine. Regardless of the motor setup you choose, the usable battery capacity is 77.4 kWh. There are no plans to add a smaller battery version in the UK, but such models will eventually appear in other countries. If the range is your primary concern, you'll be happy to learn that the cheaper single-motor version has the best range, 328 miles, versus the 4WD model's 314 miles.

And thanks to this IONIQ 5 architecture, EV6 owners can enjoy the same parts of the modern EV: a patented technology that powers the motor and inverter, boosting 400V to 800V for stable charging. If you can't wait 18 minutes, you can get 62 miles of range in 5 minutes. Home charger? You need to plan about 7.5 hours.

There's more here, the EV6 also has a V2L or "loaded vehicle" like the IONIQ 5. It basically turns the EV6's battery into a personal power station on a giant wheel. You can connect any standard home appliance
