Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is an androgen. It is an androgen, a sex hormone that contributes to developing "male" sex characteristics, such as body hair. But it can also make you lose your hair faster and earlier.

In this clip, Dr J talks about DHT's connection to balding or hair loss. High levels of androgens, including DHT, can shrink hair follicles and shorten this cycle, causing hair to grow out looking thinner and more brittle and fall out faster. DHT can also make it take longer for follicles to grow new hairs once old hairs fall out.
