A "sugar rush" is the rapid spike in energy, followed by a "sudden crash" after consuming simple sugars. To avoid a sugar rush, and the downward spiral of physical, mental and emotional lethargy, one should eat foods that contain natural sugars, known as complex carbohydrates. Carbohydrates provides us with energy, or better, sustained energy, and keep us full without feelings of lethargy later. These include; whole grain, and whole wheat products, legumes, peas, beans, oatmeal, whole grain pasta, sweet potatoes and whole grain cereal.
In like fashion, at this very minute, thousands of people, who earlier today, exchanged gifts, and "fared sumptuously", experienced a rapid spike in emotional energy, are now, experiencing an "emotional crash"! Why? Because they consumed the simple sugars of "commercialism" or "relational shallowness", in lieu of a more substantive perspective, or meaningful relationships.
Yeah, the gifts, and the hype will last for a while, but it is just a matter of time before the novelty wears off. 🙁
