† St Filippo I The Second Apostle of Rome

Known as the "Second Apostle of Rome", after Saint Peter, was an Italian priest noted for founding a society of secular clergy (that worked with the youth) called the Congregation of the Oratory. He was widely known for his great charity, deep prayer life, and tremendous humor. Hoping to join St. Ignatius of Loyola's new order of Jesuits and be a missionary to India, Providence instead guided Philip to seek out the poor and abandoned youth of Rome to catechize them in the faith and help them find a better life.

"The perfection of a Christian consists in mortifying his will for the love of Christ. Where there is no great mortification, there is no great sanctity." ~St. Philip
