Risks of Being a Sex Worker – A Psychology Course Section in Human Sexuality

In this lecture we will review the Sex Workers’ Well Being - Risks of Being a Sex Worker.

Researchers in the Netherlands recruited 100 women who had been working for at least one year for a study of “Sex and Health.” They were interviewed and completed several measures of coping style and well-being.

One forth (1/4) complained of headaches, backaches, anxiety, and depression; their coping strategies involved dissociation and denial, and they were dissatisfied with prostitution. The remaining women were in the middle (Hyde & Delamater, 2017).

Sex workers face risks due to discrimination, criminalization, and exploitation, and perhaps due to violence, disease, and drug use.
I am open to additional lecture title suggestions… so if you have a topic in mind, send me your request.
