Mothra Retrospective - 02 - Rebirth of Mothra 1

Ingrid & I continue our Mothra Retrospective as we enter the Heisei Era of the Monster Queen! After the success of Godzilla & Mothra: The Battle For Earth, Toho decided to give Mothra her own Spin-Off...one more catered towards Children.

This movie actually diverges away, or at least put twists on the various tropes established with Mothra in her past appearances. For starters, we find out how the Eggs are made (She uses magic that ends up draining her). The Cosmos are giving their most distinctive personalities (They're sisters but not Twins, and they have a third sister who is more chaotic), The villain is a variation of Ghidorah (translated as Death Ghidorah) but here, Mothra's SON (not daughter) is born BEFORE she dies and tries to help in the fight!

Granted she does inevitably bite the big one and it's up to Mothra Leo to gain his full power to stop Death Ghidorah. The effects are good and at least one of the kids is NOT annoying (the other one is a useless brat!) This is a fun start to a well made (Mostly) trilogy!
