Michael McFoul, notorious Russiaphobe and former US Ambassador to Russia, says there is no consensus in the Biden administration over Crimea

The United States does not formally recognize Crimea as part of the Russian Federation but understands that an attempt to seize it (via Ukrainian army) could be followed by a disastrous reaction.

📜 Crimea has been a part of Russia since 1783, after the Russian-Ottoman Empire war. In 1954, Khruschev gifted the Crimea over to Ukrainian jurisdiction, without having sufficient quorum in the Soviet parliament to have done so.

Prior to 2014, the historical port city of Sevastopol, Crimea almost fell to NATO dominance of the region. This would have been an irrecoverable loss for Russia, surrounded by five NATO fleet - but it was not to be. 🇷🇺
