On Sunday, December 3rd, at approximately 8:50PM Charles Mione returned home to his residence in Pasadena Lakes to find his female golden retriever (Madie) deceased in his backyard, and his male golden retriever (Max) injured. Both dogs had been left unattended in the backyard for approximately five hours, and both dogs appeared to have been shot with an unknown weapon. Our investigation revealed that the dogs had been struck with steel BBs. Madie was also found to have been previously struck by BBs on an unknown date. Max is curently in stable condition after receiving medical care.

CCTV footage from the owner captured the dogs sleeping in the backyard before they were awoken. The video shows both dogs being struck by the steel BBs as they are standing by the rear door, and captures Madie's subsequent death at 7:55PM. The identity of the suspect was not caught on camera.

Our initial investigation leads our detectives to believe that this is not a random incident, and that the person responsible for this crime is familiar with the dogs and possibly lives in the immediate area. Surveillance video provided by a neighbor shows a bald white male walking away from the crime scene while carrying what appears to be a rifle. This surveillance video was captured approximately 2 hours after the initial incident while our officers were still at the scene of the crime, and it is strongly believed that this person is related to the shooting.

We are asking our media and community partners to please assist us in sharing this story so that we can positively identify this person of interest and/or the individual responsible for this heinous crime. Please contact the Investigations Division at 954-431-2225 or 954-431-2200 with any information.
