REAL MONSTER CAUGHT ON CAMERA

An oil-rig camera captured a weird marine critter around 5,000 feet below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. It's supposed to be a seldom-seen jellyfish that lives near the Antarctic. The thing appears momentarily in the frame before disappearing. But just as the camera operator thinks it's gone for good, the monster returns for a thorough examination.

The photographs are shrouded in mystery. When the video was taken, where it was taken, and what the hell that monster is dancing in front of an oil platform's underwater camera remains unknown.

Scientists believe the "huge blob" floating slowly toward the camera is the seldom observed jellyfish depstaria reticulum, according to the news blog Zeibiz. The hexagonal pattern on its skin suggests this. The footage is said to have been filmed in the Gulf of Mexico around two years ago.
