A radio play by Roderick Graham dramatizing events surrounding the execution of Charles I.

January, 1649. Colonel Hacker faces a dilemma when Brandon, the regular hangman, fearing for his own life, refuses to carry out the execution of King Charles I. A replacement is sought, and Sergeant Jack Melford, an army farrier, is asked to fulfill the duty using his own axe. He agrees ... but the deed proves to be a fearful burden.
