There is evidence of human activity in Spain dating back to at least the Lower Paleolithic period, which began around 2.6 million years ago. During this time, early human ancestors such as Homo habilis and Homo erectus were present in Europe. However, these early human species are not considered to be directly related to modern humans.

In recent years, some researchers have claimed to have discovered evidence of more advanced civilizations in Spain that predate the known civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome. These claims are not widely accepted in the scientific community and are often based on insufficient evidence or fringe theories. It is important to approach such claims with skepticism and to carefully evaluate the evidence supporting them.

In general, the scientific consensus is that the development of complex societies and civilizations has occurred relatively recently in human history and that these civilizations developed over time through a process of cultural and technological evolution. This view is supported by a wide range of scientific evidence, including archaeological, historical, and genetic data.

The Island of Flores, located in Indonesia, gained significant media attention in 2004 when researchers announced the discovery of the remains of a small-bodied, human-like species that lived on the island around 18,000 years ago. The species, known as Homo floresiensis, stood at about 1 meter (3 feet) tall and is thought to have weighed around 25 kilograms (55 pounds).

Homo floresiensis is considered to be a separate species from modern humans, and its small size and primitive skeletal features suggest that it may have evolved from an earlier hominin species such as Homo erectus. The discovery of H. floresiensis has challenged long-held beliefs about the evolution of the human lineage and has raised questions about the possible existence of other unknown human-like species in the past.

Since the initial discovery of H. floresiensis, researchers have continued to study the remains and have learned more about the unique characteristics of this species. However, there is still much that is not known about H. floresiensis and its place in human evolution, and further research is needed to fully understand its relationship to modern humans and other hominin species.
