Top 10 Adventures of The 2020's with Kangela
My choice of the Top 10 adventures in the first 3 years of the 2020's. It's a totally personal selection with no "winner" and it's not in any particular order of preference. There are full videos of most of the destinations, in some cases more than one, links are below. So without further fanfare, here is my Top 10.
1). Zanzibar - a stunning tropical island off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa. There are several islands in the Zanzibar Archipelago, the main island, commonly known as Zanzibar Island, is officially called Unguja, and it’s been inhabited for at least 20 000 years.
2). Matjiesfontein - visiting this green oasis in the vast emptiness of the Karoo, is to take a step back in time, to the days of Anglo-Boer War and the reign of Queen Victoria. The entire village was declared a National Monument in September 1975.

3). Victoria Falls Zimbabwe - also known as Mosi Oa Tunya, (translated as "The Smoke That Thunders"), on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, it's neither the widest nor the highest waterfall in the world, but it is one of the world's Big 3. David Livingstone, who viewed the falls in 1855 wrote that "scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by Angels in their flight".

4). Narrowboat Life - for 4 months in 2020 we spent the summer cruising a small part of the 3500 km of the English canals. Living the narrowboat life is a slow one, best enjoyed at a maximum of 4 miles per hour, and the summer of 2020 will always occupy a very special place in my life.

5). Africamps - late in 2020, after originally having to postpone the project due to lockdowns, we undertook an epic 5000km overland road trip over 6 weeks, visiting all 11 (at that time) Africamps across South Africa.
Video (episode 1): https://youtu.be/6U8YWhMJkF0
6). Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - 250km north of Upington in the Northern Cape, the Kgalagadi is real wilderness. It’s a harsh environment, and totally unforgiving, with no cell phone reception and no tar roads it really is the last remaining truly really wild part of South Africa.
Video (part 1): https://youtu.be/OTp0KBlomKw
7). Southern Namibia - a 10 day overland road trip. Visiting the Fish River Canyon, Luderitz and the diamond mining ghost towns of Kolmanskop (Kolmannskuppe in German) and Elizabeth Bay. From there we turned north to Sossusvlei, an incredible and special place where the Tsauchab River finds it's way to the ocean blocked by the desert sands.

8). Kruger National Park - a popular overlanding destination in South Africa, ideal for day trip visitors with easy access from several entrance gates from the far North to the extreme South of the park. We've travelled the entire 360km north to south distance a couple of times, and will no doubt do so again.

9). Gamkaskloof AKA Die Hel - located in a remote valley in the Swartberg mountains in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It was entirely cut off from the outside world until 1962, when the road; actually a steep, windy and sometimes dangerous gravel track, was built.

10). A 2000 km round trip, over 7 nights through the beautiful Wild Coast which stretches over 250km of the most stunning coastline. Bad roads and incredible scenery are the order of the day.

I’m Chris, video creator, and lover of road tripping & the great outdoors. Now exploring the off the beaten track, hidden places of Africa, and sharing the adventure in video, photos and words. Kangela is aimed at those who want to experience gravel road travel and off road adventures, but who don’t care as much about the vehicle that gets them there, as they do about the journey itself and the destination.
I try to provide useful tips and background information about the unusual places that we visit, as well as endeavouring to draw attention to conservation, my intention is always to inform, educate and entertain.
